Interprovincial Camp 2019 Steering Committee:

The NL Provincial Council along with the NL Interprovincial Camp Responsible Guider (Jackie Perry) and Deputy Responsible Guider (Michele Dawson) are inviting applications for the 2019 NL Interprovincial Camp Steering Committee.

The commitment is for the period May 2018 to September 2019 (approximately).

The on-site event commitment is July 25 to August 5, 2019 for Steering Committee members.  The event will run from July 29 to August 4, 2019 for patrols. 

The Responsible Guider and the Deputy Responsible Guider were recruited by the Provincial Council, but all other positions will be appointed through an application and screening process.  Applications will be assessed based on background, experience and expertise.  The assessment process will include reference checks.

Once Steering Committee positions have been filled, Committee members may recommend a member to serve as a deputy, but all candidates will be assessed using the same process as other Steering Committee members. Subordinate positions to the Steering Committee will be staffed using the same selection process.

Steering Committee Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Guiding Essentials, financial management and the National and Provincial By-laws
  • Familiarity with the current Safe Guide
  • Leadership experience
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Code of conduct and Confidentiality Pledge
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Ability to work with computers (e.g. e-mail, Microsoft Office software)

General Steering Committee Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning and delivery of the work of the department for which they are responsible.
  • Develop a written work plan for the department, including a budget.
  • Document the work of the department and provide the RG with regular reports of such.
  • Recruit core staff and communicate expectations.
  • Plan for and ensure core staff needs at camp are met (accommodations, meals, scheduling, travel, etc.).
  • Communicate expectations to core staff and develop a work schedule, ensuring assistance provided to camp participants as required when not engaged in their primary responsibilities.
  • Negotiate contracts required for department activities as required and forward to designated RG to obtain signature.
  • Within one month of closing of camp, prepare an evaluation for their area of responsibility and submit a detailed report to the RG.
