NL Interprovincial Camp 2019

Interprovincial Camp 2019 Steering Committee:

The NL Provincial Council along with the NL Interprovincial Camp Responsible Guider (Jackie Perry) and Deputy Responsible Guider (Michele Dawson) are inviting applications for the 2019 NL Interprovincial Camp Steering Committee.

The commitment is for the period May 2018 to September 2019 (approximately).

The on-site event commitment is July 25 to August 5, 2019 for Steering Committee members.  The event will run from July 29 to August 4, 2019 for patrols. 

The Responsible Guider and the Deputy Responsible Guider were recruited by the Provincial Council, but all other positions will be appointed through an application and screening process.  Applications will be assessed based on background, experience and expertise.  The assessment process will include reference checks.

Once Steering Committee positions have been filled, Committee members may recommend a member to serve as a deputy, but all candidates will be assessed using the same process as other Steering Committee members. Subordinate positions to the Steering Committee will be staffed using the same selection process.

Positions for which applications are being sought: 

  • Area Liaison Coordinator – Communication between the Steering Committee and individual area liaisons
  • Core Staff Liaison – On-site planning and management of the core staff sub-camp and services
  • Secretary – Steering Committee secretarial support, planning and management of the camp Administrative Centre
  • Treasurer – Planning and management of camp finances
  • Registrar - Planning and management of participant registration process and documentation
  • Event and Emergency Management Director – Planning and management of event safety, security and communication
  • Food Services Director – Planning and management of camp food needs (purchase, distribution, catering, menu, special diets)
  • Health and Wellness Director – Planning and management of health and wellness services
  • Interprovincial Director – Planning and management of the camp experience for out-of-province guests and participants
  • Program Director – Planning and implementation of the camp program elements (including day trips and out trips)
  • Public Relations Director – Planning and management of media and external relations issues
  • Merchandising Director – Planning and management of all camp branded clothing and retail including the camp store
  • Site Services Director – Planning and management of all camp infrastructure
  • Special Events Director – Planning and implementation of the all-camp special events and ceremonies
  • Transportation Director – Planning and management of on and off site transportation
  • Sub-Camps Director – Planning and management of the sub-camps

Steering Committee Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Guiding Essentials, financial management and the National and Provincial By-laws
  • Familiarity with the current Safe Guide
  • Leadership experience
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Code of conduct and Confidentiality Pledge
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Ability to work with computers (e.g. e-mail, Microsoft Office software)

General Steering Committee Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning and delivery of the work of the department for which they are responsible.
  • Develop a written work plan for the department, including a budget.
  • Document the work of the department and provide the RG with regular reports of such.
  • Recruit core staff and communicate expectations.
  • Plan for and ensure core staff needs at camp are met (accommodations, meals, scheduling, travel, etc.).
  • Communicate expectations to core staff and develop a work schedule, ensuring assistance provided to camp participants as required when not engaged in their primary responsibilities.
  • Negotiate contracts required for department activities as required and forward to designated RG to obtain signature.
  • Within one month of closing of camp, prepare an evaluation for their area of responsibility and submit a detailed report to the RG.
